Quartz

As a Classic Rock themed weekend we are committed to bringing to Scotland some of the names that were on our ticket stubs from the late seventies and early eighties whether as headliners or support and where we can artistes and bands that haven't been up this way for a while.

I remember having the Quartz logo painted on an old combat jacket and seeing them a couple of times live. We look forward to having them back in Scotland with their distinctive black country heavy sound. For the uninitiated here's a little background.

QUARTZ are a British Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Band formed in the Mid 1970's cited as forerunners in the developing New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement of the late 70's and early 1980's.The band released their eponymous debut album on Jet Records on 20th May 1977 (which was produced by Tony Iommi) and toured heavily supporting major rock heavyweights like Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Saxon, Rush, Gillan, UFO and also appeared at The Reading Festival three times in 1977, 1978 and 1980.

“Stand Up and Fight” is the title of the band's second studio album which was released on MCA Records during the summer of 1980 and it is still regarded today by many music aficionados as one of the best examples of the NWoBHM genre. After a few line-up changes the band released their 3rd studio album aptly titled “Against All Odds” on Heavy Metal Records in 1983 before disbanding in 1984.

Fast forward some 25 years or so and the band reunite for a one off charity gig in their home town of  Birmingham boasting a line up consisting of four of the five original members. The evening is such a success and the band enjoy themselves so much in front of a large and enthusiastic crowd that the decision to officially reform in 2012 was taken. Following their reformation Quartz have played several gigs and festivals in both the UK and abroad plus also a fourth studio album has been recorded and released by High Roller Records (Germany) called “Fear No Evil” last November 2016.

There are some images below and we've left one in to the memory of Geoff Nicholls (29th February 1944 - 28th January 2017) RIP

The band are honoured and excited to be asked to appear at this year’s WinterStorm Festival and are looking forward to return to Scotland after a long absence.
