WinterStorm Rock Weekender

Vardis added to WinterStorm 22 Line Up

08/07/2022

The organisers of WinterStorm are delighted to confirm that New Wave of British Heavy Metal legends Vardis will be joining the line-up of year six of the event over the weekend of 25th and 26th of November.

Vardis were forged out of Glam, Punk, and Rock 'n' Roll in the crucible of 1970s northern England. Inspired by the great Rockers and electric bluesmen of the 50s and 60s, they learnt their trade coming up with Punk acts in the 70s, and achieved prominence in the 80s as part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The hard, ferocious attack of their sound has been cited by metal giants Metallica and Megadeth as a direct influence on the development of thrash and speed metal across North America. Never losing sight of the melodic sensibilities of their early influences, the Vardis brand of Hard Rock retains a unique heavy groove and has endured as truly original.

In 1980 they entered the UK Album Chart with the entirely live, classic debut album 100 M.P.H. that famously "GUARANTEED NO OVERDUBS”, before hitting the road in a brutal touring schedule and in 2021 to mark the 40th Anniversary of 100 M.P.H. they recorded a two-hour performance at London’s 100 Club and released the double live album 100MPH@100Club through SPV/Steamhammer to widespread critical acclaim.

Band founder, Steve Zodiac recalls The Ayr Pavilion in those NWOBHM days,

“The Ayr Pavilion was a great venue and I remember it and the Apollo well. We really like the look and feel of WinterStorm and can’t wait to return to Ayrshire after all this time. It will be great fun to be back.”

WinterStorm 2022

The main stage will hve seventeen bands over the two days across genres and as well as the top line acts will introduce some superb unsigned and up and coming new rock bands.

The weekend, once again compered by the Godfather of Scottish Rock, Tom Russell, features some of the most famous names in rock and heavy metal and as well as the announcement of Vardis the current line up includes Molly Hatchett, Vandenberg, Eclipse, ex-Maiden front man Blaze Bayley, former Dead Daisies duo Marco Mendoza and John Corabi and Kingdom of Madness featuring early Magnum members and songs. As well as the Classic stuff there is plenty of new too.

You can add to the Classic acts with new rock bands such as Scarlet Rebels and Sons of Liberty and the vocal prowess of Rebecca Downes. We’re also delighted to introduce Italian melodic metal band Edge of Forever too. This year there’ll be a touch of “genre bending” with more contemporary acts like Daytime TV and fresh from their Glastonbury success Hardwicke Circus.

2022 once again sees a full second stage with more rock talent on show than ever before including KinStrife, Cassidy Paris, Dawn after Dark, Wicked Smile, Absolva, Atack, False Hearts, Novustory, North Atlas and New Generation Superstar. This year as a first we will also have a comedy set from Sessions Stage compere Pete  K Mally.

The now traditional “After the ‘Storm” Sunday includes acoustic performances from John Corabi and Sandi Thom and a full afternoon and evening of indie, new wave and punk with The Skids, Big Country and From the Jam.

There are a couple of acts still to be announced across the whole weekend once the summer festival madness has abated but in the meantime the fully updated line up and programme of events is available on the website at www.WinterStorm.co.uk
