StormBreakers Saturday

StormBreakers Explained

StormBreakers was an idea that evolved for year two of WinterStorm - four bands performing for a place on the WinterStorm mainstage and has continued ever since providing the weekend with three quality acts year after year - Anchor Lane, Everyday Heroes and Control the Storm. For 2021 it was extended to four venues across the UK - Dreadnought in Bathgate, Trillians in Newcastle, WaterBear in Brighton and Fuel Rock Club in Cardiff - and attracted some great support from bands, fans, venues and sponsors too.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 uncertainty, two of the live dates had to be cancelled and these are now online events with each of the bands submitting two videos as their showcase over the weekend of 30th and 31st of July 2021.

We are using the "normal" judges remotely but have also extended a proportion of the voting to fans and to the 'Storm Troopers (WinterStorm volunteers) helping to ensure that it won't be a "who's got the most followers" competition.

Voting

Voting is open to WinterStorm ticket holders from Thursday and on Facebook from 8pm on Friday and Saturday and closes 10pm both nights.

Tip Jar

Tip jars always sound a bit patronising but it's an understood phrase we guess. Please consider dropping something in the box for the bands as they would have been splitting the door on top of their fee. Thanks in advance.

Band Tip Jar

Black Lakes

Black Lakes create a sound which deliberately blurs the boundaries between melodic hard rock and alternative metal, drawing on a wide range of influences from across both scenes.

Their independent debut EP was recorded in the Welsh capital with premier hard rock and metal producer Romesh Dodangoda. Their latest single 'Fragments', has been picked up across national radio including ERB radio, Kerrang! and the BBC.

Despite the impact of the pandemic, 2020 was full of highlights for the band. These including being named both a GREAT MUSIC STORIES band of the year, and Live band of the year, a critically acclaimed redux set released exclusively for the Spirt of Wildfire festival and making the final of the HARD ROCK HELL - Highway to Hell competition at the 02 Academy - Sheffield.

Black Lakes  have launched and not only successfully completed, but exceeded their gofundme campaign to support the recording of their highly anticipated debut album which is now scheduled for a 2021 release.  The band will be in the studio early in the summer.

Cry For Mercy

Cry for Mercy are a three piece rock/blues outfit from North West UK.

The story so far...
Andy and Kev have been playing and writing together for over six years and have been in a number of bands together over that time. Joining forces with Steve in 2018 they have been busy creating songs for Cry for Mercy based on delivering a great live performance and also capturing their distinctive sound...a mix of 'old schoo' British Blues Rock with a modern twist...what could be better!

Ravenbreed

Ravenbreed are a four piece hard rock band from Cardiff, South Wales. Their modern, hard hitting blend of melodic and punchy music has attracted a loyal fanbase and seen them feature on many festival line ups including Redemption Festival, Ice Breaker, Loverocks Festival, Breaking Bands Festival and Hard Rock Hell 13 amongst others.

Original members Mikey Watkins, Ross Formosa and former drummer Oli Watkins joined forces with vocalist Luke Short in late 2019 and released their latest EP 'Echoes' in February 2021. The release gained critical acclaim from BBC Wales, numerous radio stations and the wider music industry and the lead track 'Echoes' is the band’s biggest release to date with over 40k streams on Spotify alone.

In Summer 2021, the band signed to WDFD Records and Alpha Band Management and recently received the accolade of Band of the Month from Great Music Stories - proving their trajectory continues to rise.

With the release of a keenly anticipated single in Autumn 2021 and an EP planned towards the end of the year, Ravenbreed are set to build on their success all that's left to say is ... Ravenbreed are comin' with attitude, so look out.

Steal The City

Hailing from Sheffield, dynamic hard rock 4 piece outfit Steal The City are purveyors of some of the sharpest hooked riffs and chorus lines this side of the Atlantic. While Individually submerged somewhere in the underground rock scene, they found each other through sharing the same passion, drive and commitment to music.

Musically, Steal The City combine modern metal music with their gift of harmonious, progressive writing and follow their own path to get to the sound in which they are quickly becoming recognised for.

Steal The City released their debut EP in mid-2018 to a sold out Corporation in Sheffield, and are now working on their follow-up release. After the departure of founding memeber Sam, the band has gone through a lineup change. Joe has taken up Lead Vocals whilst still keeping Rhythm Guitar, Smit has stepped away from Lead Guitar duties to take up Bass and more of a Vocal position and Ellis is still the man behind the Drums. The Sheffield rockers welcomed long time fan of the band Jake, to be the final fourth member of Steal The City by becoming the Lead Guitarist.
